COMMITMENT

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans.
That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves, too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred.”
William H Murray

Commitment -real commitment is a choice.
One choice that informs all other choices until that commitment is fulfilled (or you decide to uncommit).

There a 3 types of commitment

FUTURE FOCUSED
A commitment to make a change, to new way of being, to reach a certain goal.
“this is who I’ll be”, “this is what I’ll do”, “this is the vision I will move toward.”
We empower our Future commitment with planning & preparation.

PRESENT MOMENT
Committing fully to the task at hand, to walking the path, to executing with excellence.
We empower the present moment with intentions, focus, effort & a practice mindset.

SUSTAINED
The capacity to stay committed over time.
Continuing through set backs, resistance, boredom, doubt, failures and fears.
We empower sustained commitment with patience, perseverance and passion.

TRY THIS

Plan and Prepare
What it is you’ll commit to this week?
What steps will you take to honour this commitment?
When will you take those steps?
How will you prepare yourself and your environment to make the plan most likely to succeed?

Practice Presence
When it comes to doing the thing -
Get clear on your intentions - what will you bring to the moment?
Harness you attention & effort - what will you focus on? what skills will you practice? how much effort will you make?
Commit to doing the best you can in the moment - reflecting later on how you could improve.

Reflection & Resilience
At the end of the week, after a rest, reflect on the week that was -
what did you do well?
how could you improve?
Reconnect with your commitment, your vision - is it still strong, are you willing to recommit this week?
Then with the notion of making next week a little better than this one - repeat the process.
